Overview

The Conservative Party is launching a search for talented and experienced communications and digital professionals. In order to help the Party support the Government’s work to level up the country, the best candidates may be considered for political appointments to serve as special advisers.

Special advisers work with Ministers, Downing Street and other government officials to help deliver the Government’s priorities. Traditionally these roles are not made available for anyone to apply, but it is the Conservative Party’s ambition for the whole country to be represented in government, and the Party therefore wants to hear from talented people from all walks of life and from all parts of the UK who are interested in working at the heart of government.

This comes at an exciting time in our nation’s politics. In order to effectively tackle long-term problems and take advantage of the opportunities Brexit has opened up, the Government requires capable and experienced advisers from a range of professional backgrounds. The successful applicants will work to deliver the Conservative Party's ambitious agenda to unleash Britain’s potential and level up the whole country.

The Conservative Party is encouraging anyone excited by this agenda and who has a track record of success working in communications or digital fields, to apply to be considered for a selection pool. People showing great potential will go through a rigorous process of written exercises, telephone interviews and a selection panel consisting of senior Conservative Party figures, corporate headhunters and former special advisers from strategic advisory firm Hanbury Strategy.

Special advisers are required to adhere to the special adviser code of conduct and the terms of appointment are set out in the model contract for special advisers available on gov.uk.
